Important public hearing on December 17 in Augusta
Keep Maine’s Kid-Safe Products Law on track
Stop the chemical industry’s plan to derail safer products

This year for the holidays, we want safe products free of dangerous chemicals. Your action is needed right now to keep Maine on the path to safer products and healthy families. Join us at the Augusta Civic Center on Thursday morning, December 17 for a critical public hearing.

What’s Happening

In 2008, Maine passed its groundbreaking Kid-Safe Products Act, which will get the most dangerous chemicals out of everyday products that expose our children. The law is now being put into effect. In July, Maine named over 1,700 “Chemicals of High Concern” already known to be hazardous. Now, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has produced rules that will govern how “Priority Chemicals” for immediate action will be selected, and that will ensure that information on the use of these chemicals in products is collected and that assessments of safer alternatives are completed.

What You Can Do

Attend the Public Hearing on Thursday, December 17 and demand safer products.

Chemical companies and their allies will be out in force trying to block progress under the Kid-Safe Products Act. The Board of Environmental Protection needs to hear from parents, nurses, teachers, and all Mainers that we expect immediate action under this law.
